SOUTHSIDE ISD EXPLORERS JOIN FORCES WITH AREA EXPLORERS
Approximately 50 Police and Fire Explorers from around the San Antonio area descended upon the Southside ISD Campus for the week long Alamo Area Public Safety Explorer Academy. The Explorers from SAPD, Constables office, Alamo Heights, Poteet Fire Department, and SISD attended classes ranging from Air Life Landing Zone certification, Arson investigation, Explosive training, Fire Search and Rescue, Building Search, Patrol Tactics, and Law Enforcement Computer Usage. They participated in a 16 hour certification course conducted by Home Land Security for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). The CERT Program provides training to civilians in basic first aid, triage, basic fire extinguishing, and search techniques for victims during a disaster like a tornado, hurricane or earthquake. The Explorers that attended the full academy received four certifications in the public safety training.
Southside ISD Police Department Sgt. O'Callaghan was nominated for the Local Law Enforcement of the Year Award. All nominees were recognized at a luncheon at Oak Hills Country Club, and presented with a plaque in their honor. On behalf of the SISD Police Department, Chief Richard Palomo, congratulates Sgt. O'Callaghan on his nomination and contribution to the SISD community. Pictured: Dr. Juan Antonio Jasso, Sgt. O'Callaghan, and Sheriff Ortiz.
