FREE SAT SUMMER ACADEMY 2009
Southside High School will be hosting a FREE SAT Summer 2009 Academy for 2009-2010 school year for 10th and 11th grade students.
SAT Summer Academy 2009 will provide:
Familiarity with SAT-format, style, types of questions, scoring, etc.
Strategies to attack SAT
Test taking tips
Free space is available, but limited. Registration deadline is August 3, 2009.
Students must be committed to attend all sessions:
Monday-Thursday, August 10-August 20, 8:00 a.m. -11:15 a.m.
Pre-Test: Thursday, August 6, 2009, 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and Post-Test: Friday, August, 21, 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
A parent meeting will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at Southside High School. For additional information contact S.H.S.'s Counseling Department at 210-882-1606, ext. 1524.

SOUTHSIDE LADY CARDINALS SHINE IN AREA AND STATE GOLF
Samantha Martinez, Southside High School Junior has made the Express-News high school golf Super Team. Martinez was the only 4A player to make the Super Team. She has lettered three years, had a top ten finish at the State 4A Tournament, and is the District 29-4A defending champion. Kristen Garcia, Southside H.S. Junior was selected to the Sub 5A Area Team. Garcia has lettered three years, had a top ten finish at the Region IV Tournament and made first team all district.

SOUTHSIDE HIGH SCHOOL'S 57TH COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES
Southside High School students said their last goodbye Saturday, June 6, 2009. The graduating class of 2009, parents, staff, friends and relatives joined to celebrate this special occasion at the San Antonio Municipal Auditorium at 5:00 p.m. Guest speaker, Eva Esquivel, Communications Manager for the Workforce Solutions Alamo, addressed the students about the possibilities and opportunities after graduation. Congratulations to Southside's Class of 2009!

COMMUNITY EDUCATION CLASSES OFFERED AT SOUTHSIDE ISD
Registration for GED, Sign Language and Computer classes will be held Monday, August 31 and Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. in the Community Education Portable.
Registration for ESL will be held Tuesday, September 1 and Thursday, September 3, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

SOUTHSIDE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ATTEND UTSA'S CEREMONY FOR COMPLETION OF EARLY COLLEGE PROGRAM
Southside High School students, along with East Central and Southwest students, received college credit for taking classes at the University of Texas in San Antonio. This unique program allowed Southside High School students to take college-level courses while still in high school. Students had the opportunity to receive credit for their first two years of college. The class of 2008 were pioneers of this program, and other students have continued to take advantage of this excellent opportunity. Southside High School students were recognized, during this year's ceremony, by the participating district superintendents, President of UTSA, Dr. Romo, high school principals, board members, and university faculty.

END OF YEAR LUNCHEON-AN OPPORTUNITY TO CONGRATULATE RETIREE
Southside ISD's Operation Department celebrated their hard work with an end-of-year luncheon. Mr. Frank Bayardo, Director of Operations, took advantage of the occasion to congratulate Mrs. Terri Rodriguez who's retiring after 20 years of service. For many years, Rodriguez has been the first person students get to see in the mornings and the last one to say good night to them. Congratulations to Terri Rodriguez!

PIONEER INTERN WITH SISD'S PURCHASING/WAREHOUSE
Cody Gates is graduating from Southside High School this year. He is the first intern the Purchasing/Warehouse Department has ever hired as a paid intern. Cody assists Joseph Alaniz, Delivery Driver. Gates plans to attend Texas A&M, Corpus Christi, and major in Business Administration. Southside ISD, offers internship experiences to prepare students for the real world.

LOSOYA INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL 5TH GRADE STUDENTS WELCOMED "RETRO BILL"
Bill Russ, better known as "Retro Bill", shared a positive message with Losoya students graduating from the D.A.R.E. program that Southside ISD's Police Department offers. Principal, Michelle Hickman, Sergeant, Robert O'Callaghan, and "Retro Bill", all shared a message with the Losoya 5th grade students of saying no to peer pressure and to drugs. The students also learned about making good choices in life.
