PARENT WANTS TO BE A ROLE MODEL TO HER CHILDREN
Mrs. Blanca E. Rodriguez completed and passed all requirements for the GED on April 25. Rodriguez has been attending the Adult Education class SISD offers. Mrs. Rodriguez says she wants to prove to her kids that if she can do it, they can also succeed in school. Three of her children attend school at SISD. Stephanie is a freshman at Southside High School. Her younger children, Walter and Valerie attend Freedom Elementary. Her oldest son, Hector, has blessed Mrs. Rodriguez with several grandchildren. Mrs. Rodriguez wants to take computer classes to help her husband with his business. He is an electrician. Congratulations to Mrs. Blanca E. Rodriguez!
SOUTHSIDE ISD IS COMMITTED TO THE SUCCESS OF ALL STUDENTS
Fifth grade students from around the district who did not pass the first administration of the Math TAKS test were recommended to the first Saturday Academy held at Gallardo Elementary. Students who took advantage of the Saturday Academy were provided with additional support in a variety of strategies to help them pass the second administration on May 13. These students have a better chance of passing because of this opportunity. There is one more opportunity to attend the academy on May 10, 2008. The times for the academy are from 8 am to 12 pm. Teachers and administrators who are committed to the success of these students were all present. Thanks to all!
 TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
Every day, teachers touch the lives of students, parents, and entire communities. SISD honors and thanks all teachers for their dedication and commitment to all students. Please take the time to thank a teacher today.

SOUTHSIDE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT WISH COMES TRUE
Marci West had the opportunity to have a dream come true thanks to the AT&T Wish Connection. She received a lot of attention, on April 16, during a San Antonio Spurs game against the Utah Jazz. Marci's name was posted with a big welcome on the JumboTron of the AT&T Center. She also went home with a gift bag full of goodies, but the highlight of the night was for her to personally meet the San Antonio Spurs star, Manu Ginobili. Marci had a Hummer Limo ride to and from the game with a two night stay in the Presidential Suite of the Crown Plaza Hotel. The AT&T Wish Connection of San Antonio made this possible. This organization grants wishes to children with life-threatening and chronically-debilitating conditions. It was an event Marci and her family will never forget.
