 JUNIOR VARSITY AND FRESHMEN CARDINAL FOOTBALL TEAMS BEAT THE EAGLES
Southside High School Freshmen beat the Brackenridge football team 28-6 Thursday evening at a home game. Southside High School's Junior Varsity also enjoyed a victory against the Eagles with a final score of 26-8. The next game for the JV team will be away against Jefferson on Thursday, September 11, at 5:15 p.m. The freshmen "red" team will have a home game against the Jefferson Mustangs at 5:15 p.m. Thursday. The "white" freshmen team will be playing the South San Bobcats second team immediately after the "red" team, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Go Cards!
 SOUTHSIDE HIGH SCHOOL CARDINAL FOOTBALL TEAM WINS BIG IN FIRST GAME
Friday night was a big day for Southside High School football players as they played their first game against Pearsall High School. The Cardinal team beat the Pearsall Mavericks 36-8. The next game is Saturday, September 6, against Brackenridge at the Alamo Stadium. Game starts at 7:00 p.m.

 HERITAGE ELEMENTARY RECEIVES RECOGNITION DURING BOARD MEETING
Heritage Elementary staff were congratulated during a regular board meeting Thursday, August 28 for earning one of the state's highest ratings. They are a Texas Education Agency "recognized" campus. Dr. Cynthia Judson received a huge banner and an award at the board meeting. Judson stated she would pass on the torch to the new principal of Heritage Elementary, Dr. Carl Scarbrough.
 BIG NEWS FOR FREEDOM ELEMENTARY STAFF AND FOR TWO OTHER SISD CAMPUSES
Board members made a big announcement during a regular board meeting Thursday, August 28. Freedom Elementary, Heritage Elementary and Pearce Primary School were praised for receiving one of the state's highest ratings. They are all "Recognized" campuses. Board members approved a monetary compensation that will be given to all staff members of each one of those schools. Monica Villarreal, Principal of Freedom Elementary and her staff, were all excited with the news.
 SECOND CONSECUTIVE "RECOGNIZED" STATUS FOR PEARCE ELEMENTARY
Dr. Mary Bandy and her staff were once again acknowledged by board members and administrators for their "Recognized" rating. Pearce Primary School is now working hard and on its way to receive the "Exemplary" status. Pearce Principal and staff members will receive a monetary compensation for their hard work and accomplishments.
 STATE REPRESENTATIVE, JOE FARIAS, VISITS THREE SISD SCHOOLS
State Representative Joe Farias and his staff took the time to take school supplies to three of Southside Independent School District's schools. On Friday, August 29, they visited Freedom Elementary, Gallardo Elementary and Heritage Elementary. KSAT 12 news was there to witness the moment. Mr. Farias encouraged students to stay in school, to always attend class, and to do their best.
 STUDENTS WHO DON'T GIVE UP WALK THE STAGE
In an effort to continue to assist students who need a little help in meeting the requirements for graduation, Southside High School offers additional tutoring classes during the summer. Four students completed all credits required for graduation, but they still needed to pass their TAKS testing. These students did not give up and worked hard to meet all requirements to be eligible for graduation. Congratulations to these students!  FIRST CLASS TO ATTEND SOUTHSIDE HIGH SCHOOL'S 9TH GRADE ACADEMY
Freshmen Alyssa, Carissa and Kristen pose for a picture on their first day of class at the 9th Grade Academy. Gilbert Olivarri, Academic Dean, was busy welcoming all returning and new students back to school. "Everything is going very smooth," Mr. Olivarri said Monday morning. The purpose of the academy is to respond to the physical, intellectual, and emotional needs of student population, according to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Juan Antonio Jasso. "We also want to concentrate on attendance, academics and on relationships," shared Dr. Jasso.
 SOUTHSIDE ISD ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAM GED class registration will be on: Monday, September 8 and Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 6 p.m. First day of class for GED is Monday, September 15, 2008. GED classes are Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m.
ESL class registration will be on: Tues., Sept. 9, Wed. Sept. 10 and Thurs. Sept. 11, 2008 at 8:30 a.m. First day of class for ESL is Tuesday, September 16, 2008. ESL classes are Tues., Wed. and Thurs. from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Basic Computer Skills Class for beginners with no knowledge or very little knowledge of computers. Computer class registration will be on: Monday, September 8 and Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 6 p.m. First day of class for Basic Computer Skills is Monday, September 15. Computer class will be on Mondays from 6-8 p.m.
Sign Language Class Will be on Mondays from 6-7 p.m. Registration will be on Monday, September 8 and Wednesday September 10, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. First day of class for Sign Language is Monday, September 15, 2008.
Registration for these classes will be in the GED/ESL portable next to Southside's 9th grade academy.
